Can industrial packaging also be environmentally friendly?
In a world where sustainability is becoming increasingly important, it is logical for companies to take a critical look at the impact of their activities. Industrial packaging, often associated with large amounts of waste and environmental pollution, can be environmentally friendly as far as Ecolinq is concerned. We believe it is possible to make functionality and sustainability go hand in hand. In this blog, we show how this can be done, with examples from the present and a look to the future.
Industrial packaging at Ecolinq?
Industrial packaging; perhaps not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of our webshop. But Ecolinq is much more than just a webshop. We are also a packaging wholesaler, specialising in sustainable packaging solutions for professionals. That includes industrial packaging. We do a lot for the food industry, sweets industry in particular, horticulture, coffee roasters and greeting card industry to name but a few. Our so-called eco-managers are ready to advise you on (tailor-made) requests for our industrial packaging. They will be happy to help you find the right balance between costs and sustainability. Especially with larger investments, the question arises: is environmentally-friendly packaging a responsible choice? Our eco-managers will be happy to think along with you on this.
Current solutions for sustainable industrial packaging
Biodegradable materials
One of the biggest innovations in the packaging industry is the emergence of biodegradable materials. Think of packaging made from plant-based materials, such as maize, sugar cane and bamboo. These materials offer the same strength and protection as traditional plastic packaging, but break down much faster in nature. Many of our disposables are biodegradable. For example plates , cutlery and bowls and cups
Recycled materials
Recycled materials, such as cardboard and paper, have been a popular choice for years and remain relevant. These materials are durable enough to protect heavy industrial products and can often be recycled again, like these shipping envelopes. This significantly extends the life cycle of packaging.
Industrial compostable bioplastic
This material has been around for a while and we have recently seen a huge improvement in the quality of bioplastic. Where the material was often brittle and showed slightly weaker welds compared to normal plastic, we are now seeing a huge catch-up in terms of quality improvement. This material is widely used in the food industry. Think for example of Chocolate bars that are now packed in either plastic or aluminum foil. Ecolinq has many articles made of bioplastic on the site, for example stand-up pouches and flat bags. These products are made of PLA. PLA, or also Polylactic Acid is a bioplastic which is made from corn and sugar beet, among others, is 100% plant-based and is exclusively industrially compostable. The advantage is that the packaging can be kept in stock without going off the shelf.
Innovations on the horizon
Smart packaging
Smart packaging equipped with sensors or QR codes can provide real-time information about the condition of a product. This prevents waste by allowing products to be transported and stored more efficiently. These packages can also be made from sustainable materials.
CO₂-negative verpakkingen
CO₂-negative packaging is produced in a way that removes more CO₂ from the air than it emits. Think of packaging made from fungi or algae. Although this technology is still in development, it offers tremendous potential for the future. We are of course keeping a close eye on this for our customers.
Why choosing sustainable packaging pays off
Sustainable packaging is not only better for the environment, but also for businesses. They offer a positive image, which is attractive to customers and investors. Moreover, many of these solutions lead to long-term cost savings.
At Ecolinq, we work daily on solutions that combine environmental friendliness and efficiency. Whether you are looking for a biodegradable alternative, industrially compostable packaging or support in implementing a future-oriented packaging policy, we are happy to help.
Together, we can ensure that industrial packaging is no longer a problem, but part of the solution. Are you ready to make the switch?
